Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar when taken along with dietary control and exercise. Sitagliptin and metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar, playing an important role in diabetes management. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
To reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions associated with metformin, this medication should be taken once daily at dinner with meals, and the dosage should be gradually increased. To maintain the extended release properties, this medication should not be split, crushed, chewed, or broken, but rather swallowed whole. 1. Patients not currently being treated with metformin: The initial dose is a total daily amount of 100 mg sitagliptin and 1000 mg metformin.
This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin, primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication; therefore, if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, acute pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea appear, seek medical attention promptly. The metformin component of this medication can, although rarely, cause a serious metabolic issue known as lactic acidosis. It should therefore not be administered to those with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or heart disease. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or those scheduled for examinations using radioiodine contrast should also avoid this medication. The safety of this medication has not been established for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and it should not be administered to children under 18. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so supplementation may be necessary. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while on this medication, and if eating patterns are irregular or strenuous exercise is undertaken, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is advised. If undergoing surgery, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior, and resumed only after stable conditions and normal kidney function have been confirmed post-surgery. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with other hypoglycemic agents or certain medications, so all medications being taken must be disclosed to healthcare providers. During treatment, side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, and upper respiratory infections may occur. If symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a doctor. Finally, when administering this medication to the elderly, dosage adjustments should be made considering reduced kidney function, and regular health evaluations are needed.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It is essential to maintain storage temperatures between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius to preserve the medication's efficacy.
