Precautions

This medication includes sitagliptin and metformin, which are used in diabetes treatment. The sitagliptin component can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur within three months of starting treatment, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Also, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever appear, you should inform healthcare personnel quickly. The metformin component should not be used in patients with poor kidney function, severe infection or dehydration, or acute cardiac disease, as there is a risk of lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder, especially in cases of decreased kidney function. Lactic acidosis can manifest with symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and reduced consciousness; if such symptoms occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. Patients should have their kidney function checked regularly before and during treatment with this medication, and if kidney function declines, the medication should be discontinued. Furthermore, this medication should not be used in pregnant or potentially pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or children under 18 years of age. During treatment with this medication, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided, and it may be necessary to stop taking the medication for a certain period before and after surgery. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so care should be taken to avoid skipping meals or eating irregularly, and during intense exercise; if taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications, symptoms of hypoglycemia may appear, so patients should inform healthcare personnel immediately if symptoms occur. Some patients may experience side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, upper respiratory infection, and if symptoms are severe or persistent, a doctor should be consulted. Lastly, if blisters appear on the skin or severe joint pain occurs while taking this medication, it should be stopped immediately, and medical advice should be sought.
