Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication assists patients with type 2 diabetes in managing their blood sugar more effectively by using sitagliptin and metformin in conjunction with diet and exercise therapy. It is used to help improve blood sugar control to aid in diabetes management.
For this 100/1000 mg extended-release tablet, take one tablet once daily. Patients taking the 50/500 mg or 50/1000 mg extended-release tablets should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose should be a total daily amount of sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 1000 mg. Gradually increasing the metformin dose can be done if adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with the initial dose.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps in blood sugar control. However, there are some precautions to follow when taking this medication. First, allergic reactions may occur to the ingredients contained in this medication, so if symptoms of hypersensitivity appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Second, serious pancreatic inflammation known as acute pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite develop, immediately inform healthcare personnel. Third, it may be dangerous to take this medication if kidney function is impaired, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and if any abnormalities arise, consult a physician. Fourth, this medication can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but fatal metabolic complication, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, or fatigue occur, seek medical attention immediately. Fifth, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so care should be taken when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise, and if symptoms of hypoglycemia appear, sugar should be consumed immediately. Sixth, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Seventh, before undergoing surgery or imaging tests with contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and it should be resumed only after verifying that kidney function is normal post-surgery. Eighth, it is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid taking this medication. Ninth, elderly patients may easily experience decreased kidney function, so dose adjustment and regular kidney function testing are necessary. Finally, it is important to have regular blood tests and kidney function tests to monitor for abnormalities while taking this medication. This medication should be taken strictly according to a physician's prescription and instructions, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, consult healthcare personnel immediately.
