Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. When administered along with dietary and exercise therapies, it can effectively manage blood sugar levels. Sitagliptin and metformin work together to reduce and stabilize blood sugar levels. This may also contribute to the prevention of complications associated with diabetes. Therefore, this medication is used for blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients.
The extended-release tablet of this medication, 100/1000 mg, is taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time. Patients taking the 50/500 mg extended-release tablet or the 50/1000 mg extended-release tablet should take 2 tablets at the same time once daily. 1. Patients who are not currently receiving treatment with metformin: The initial dosage is a total daily dose of 100 mg sitagliptin and 1000 mg metformin. Gradually, metformin is increased.
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication; if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing appear, it is essential to stop taking the medication immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. This medication may cause inflammation of the pancreas known as pancreatitis; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or fever occur, it should be reported to a doctor immediately. Furthermore, the metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but severe metabolic disorder. Symptoms may include muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, low body temperature, or altered consciousness; if these symptoms appear, a healthcare facility should be visited immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with reduced kidney function or liver dysfunction, and it should be stopped in cases of acute illness such as dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. In cases where patients are scheduled for iodine contrast imaging tests, they must stop taking this medication 48 hours before the test and can only resume taking it once normal kidney function has been confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication, and safety for children under 18 has not been established. During the course of taking this medication, irregular meals, excessive exercise, and overconsumption of alcohol should be avoided, and if there are other medications being taken, they should be reported to a doctor or pharmacist due to potential interactions. Symptoms of hypoglycemia (dizziness, cold sweat, trembling, etc.) may occur; especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications, blood sugar levels should be checked frequently. Regular checks of kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted; if any unusual symptoms occur, consult with a healthcare professional immediately. Finally, if surgery is approaching or if the patient is in a severe condition such as severe infection or trauma, the medication should be temporarily discontinued, and resumed only after recovery.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, exfoliative skin disorders including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, acute pancreatitis, lactic acidosis, acute kidney failure, worsening of acute kidney function, severe hypoglycemia, severe arthralgia with disability, bullous pemphigoid, elevated liver enzymes, liver abnormalities (jaundice), severe edema, hypoxia, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, severe edema with associated hypertension, severe allergic reactions, difficulty breathing.

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it is important to keep it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius to maintain effectiveness.
