Precautions
This medication contains two active ingredients, each used for the treatment of diabetes.
First, this medication includes sitagliptin, which can rarely cause severe allergic reactions. Such reactions may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and serious skin conditions. If any of these symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
Additionally, there have been reports of a serious side effect known as acute pancreatitis, characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, so patients should notify their physician immediately if they experience symptoms of pancreatitis such as abdominal pain or vomiting during treatment.
Second, the active ingredient metformin may pose risks for patients with impaired kidney function and can lead to severe metabolic abnormalities known as lactic acidosis in severe cases. Lactic acidosis can present with symptoms such as muscle pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, and abdominal pain, and immediate medical attention should be sought if these symptoms occur.
This medication should not be administered to patients with severe kidney impairment, severe infections or dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or acute heart failure. It should also not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
When taking this medication, it is important to be cautious about irregular eating habits, intense exercise, and interactions with certain medications, as hypoglycemia may occur, making it essential to check blood sugar levels frequently.
Furthermore, the risk may increase when this medication is taken with alcohol, so drinking should be avoided, and the medication may need to be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery.
Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be conducted to monitor the safety of this medication, and vitamin B12 levels should also be checked periodically.
Patients should be aware of potential allergies to the pigments contained in this medication, and severe joint pain or skin conditions may arise; should these symptoms occur, medical professionals should be notified immediately.
Finally, in the event of an overdose of this medication, immediate medical treatment is necessary, and certain components can be removed via hemodialysis, so patients must adhere to medical guidance.
