How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this medication should not exceed sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg, determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance. This medication is taken once daily in the evening with meals, and the dose should be gradually increased. To maintain its extended-release characteristics, it should be swallowed whole and not split, crushed, or chewed. The 100/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time.

Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. When taking this medication, it is important to monitor for serious allergic reactions. If symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. There is a risk of pancreatitis, characterized by inflammation of the pancreas; if sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occurs, seek medical attention immediately. Though rare, metformin can cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, seek medical care immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, or recent acute myocardial infarction should avoid taking this medication. Temporary discontinuation of this medication is necessary before and after tests involving iodine contrast agents, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women, as well as breastfeeding mothers, should avoid taking this medication. Take special care in the case of irregular meals, intense exercise, and potential drug interactions, and be cautious if allergic to any colorants in this medication. During treatment, hypoglycemia may occur, so if symptoms such as dizziness, cold sweat, or severe fatigue arise, consume sugar immediately and consult a physician. Regular monitoring of kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels is important to check for abnormalities. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, as excessive drinking may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustment and regular monitoring of kidney function are required. In cases of overdose, seek medical attention immediately and appropriate treatment can be provided, including potential removal of the medication through dialysis if necessary.
