Precautions

This medication is a combination of sitagliptin and metformin, used for diabetes treatment. Firstly, the sitagliptin component can cause rare but serious allergic reactions. These reactions may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and serious skin disorders, so if skin rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or neck occur within 3 months after taking the medication, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or other symptoms appear, stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention. The metformin component can cause a rare side effect known as lactic acidosis, which is a very dangerous condition that requires prompt treatment. Therefore, this medication should not be taken by patients with impaired kidney function or those with certain conditions such as severe infections, dehydration, or heart failure. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderately impaired kidney function or worse, patients with acute heart failure, patients receiving radiological contrast agents, type 1 diabetes patients, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Moreover, caution should be exercised while taking this medication in cases of irregular meals, vigorous exercise, and interactions with certain drugs, as it contains Red 40, which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. During treatment, gastrointestinal disturbances, hypoglycemia, or skin rashes may occur, so consult a doctor if symptoms are severe or concerning. Finally, temporarily stopping the medication before and after surgery or in cases of severe infections or trauma is required, and it can be resumed once the condition stabilizes.
