Precautions

This medication is a combination product containing sitagliptin and metformin. The sitagliptin component can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, which include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe skin conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome. These allergic reactions may appear within the first three months of taking the medication, so if symptoms are suspected, it is important to stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin carries the risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur during treatment, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. The metformin component can cause a rare side effect known as severe lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, therefore it should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function or those with severe infections or dehydration. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe impaired kidney function, acute heart failure, or those scheduled for tests using contrast media. Furthermore, patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe liver dysfunction, and women who are pregnant or nursing should not use this medication. Care should be taken during treatment regarding irregular meals, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications, and it should be used cautiously in patients sensitive to excipients that may cause allergic reactions. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, dizziness, and symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur; if these symptoms are severe or persistent, it is crucial to inform a physician. Finally, before surgery or in the event of severe infections or trauma, the medication should be temporarily discontinued, and it should be resumed once the patient's condition stabilizes.
