Improvement and treatment of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication serves to assist dietary and exercise regimens to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone, and if there is no improvement in blood sugar despite the use of other oral hypoglycemic agents, it may be administered in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. It is important for patients with type 2 diabetes to also engage in nutritional counseling, weight loss, and exercise, as these efforts help maintain the effectiveness of medication treatment as well as initial therapy. This medication is used to improve blood sugar control.
This medication is administered orally once a day regardless of meals. 1. Monotherapy - May be initiated at 15 mg once a day. - If the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased to 30 mg once a day. 2. Combination therapy - Initial dose is 15 mg once a day when used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. - The maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once a day.
There is no experience in using this medication in pediatric patients under 18 years of age, so it is not recommended for use.
This medication may worsen or newly cause heart disease known as heart failure in some patients. Close monitoring is required for sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or swelling after starting this medication or increasing the dosage. If these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary, and consideration should be given to stopping or reducing the dosage if needed. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use this medication. Additionally, due to the potential for fluid retention, it should be used cautiously in patients with heart diseases or those at high risk for heart failure. This medication requires insulin to be effective as a diabetes treatment, and it is not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should also avoid this medication. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication, and pre-menopausal women may require appropriate contraception as this medication may promote ovulation. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and any symptoms of weight gain, edema, or shortness of breath should be promptly reported to a physician. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so when used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia. This medication may cause weight gain and edema, and side effects such as headaches, upper respiratory infections, and myalgia may occur in some patients. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, so particularly women should pay attention to bone health. There may be no specific symptoms in case of overdose, but adequate treatment should be sought per a physician's instructions. This medication has not been proven safe and effective for children, and caution is advised for elderly patients. When storing the medication, keep it out of reach of children and store it sealed in its original container.
