Pimasartan potassium is a medication used for patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty controlling their blood pressure with monotherapy. This medication effectively lowers blood pressure and assists in its management. By appropriately managing blood pressure, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, pimasartan plays a crucial role in the treatment of hypertension and improves patients' health.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage of this medication is 1 tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is advised to take it at the same time each day (e.g., morning). For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with pimasartan 30 mg monotherapy, 30/2.5 mg should be administered. For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with pimasartan 60 mg monotherapy, 60/2.5 mg should be administered.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in patients under 18 years of age have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. Patients who are allergic to the active ingredients or dihydropyridine components should not take this medication. It is contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients undergoing renal dialysis, those with moderate to severe liver impairment, and patients with bile duct obstruction. Patients with diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment using specific renin inhibitors should also not use this medication. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. The use of this medication is prohibited in patients with severe aortic stenosis or in a state of shock. Caution is required when administering this medication to patients who are volume-depleted or hyponatremic, those with impaired kidney function, patients with renovascular hypertension, certain cardiac valve disorders, primary aldosteronism, severe hypotension, and the elderly. Patients allergic to the coloring agents contained in this medication should also exercise caution. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, facial swelling, urinary disturbances, insomnia, and flushing may occur; if abnormal symptoms appear, consult a doctor. There may be instances of excessive hypotension or hyperkalemia, so patients with heart failure or renal impairment should periodically check their potassium levels through blood tests. This medication may enhance blood pressure-lowering effects if taken with other antihypertensives or diuretics, so inform your doctor of any medications being taken. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication unless necessary; consult a physician for safe alternative medications. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established. Elderly patients may react more sensitively to this medication, necessitating caution. Patients with moderate or severe liver impairment should not take this medication. Overdosage may result in symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia; in severe cases, emergency treatment may be necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers, as this may degrade its quality.
