Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication helps lower blood pressure more effectively in patients with essential hypertension who struggle to control blood pressure even with Pimansartan Potassium monotherapy. Essential hypertension is high blood pressure that occurs without a specific cause, making blood pressure management crucial. This medication dilates blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and reducing the strain on the heart. It can be used in conjunction with other treatments when monotherapy is not effective. This contributes to stable blood pressure control in patients. Ultimately, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this medication’s active ingredient or similar components, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients on kidney dialysis, those with severely compromised liver function, bile duct obstruction, certain kidney diseases, or diabetic nephropathy should not take this medication. Patients with low blood volume or sodium, impaired kidney function, renal artery hypertension, heart valve disease, severe hypotension, elderly individuals, and those with hypersensitivity to specific pigments should take special caution when using this medication and should be closely monitored. This medication can commonly cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, facial or limb swelling, urination issues, insomnia, and flushing, while severe side effects such as major renal problems or hypotension may occur rarely. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, patients experiencing symptoms of hypotension should consult a doctor immediately, and in severe cases, seek appropriate treatment at a hospital. This medication can interact with other drugs; therefore, it is essential to inform the doctor if taking potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, specific antibiotics, and other antihypertensive medications. Taking this medication during pregnancy poses a serious risk to the fetus; thus, women planning a pregnancy or who are pregnant should consult with their doctor before taking it, and it is not recommended during breastfeeding. For children under 18 years old, safety and efficacy have not been established, so it is best not to use it. Generally, elderly patients do not require dose adjustments; however, some elderly individuals may be more sensitive to the medication and should be closely monitored. Patients with moderate to severe liver impairment should not take this medication. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or cardiac irregularities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
