How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, with gradual dose increases to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dose should be determined according to the patient's therapy regimen, with a typical initiation of 1 tablet taken twice daily. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: Take 50/500 mg twice daily, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg. 2. For patients receiving metformin treatment.

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which help control blood sugar. First, there is a risk of serious allergic reactions while taking this medication. If symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. There is also a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain occurs, notify medical personnel immediately. The metformin included in this medication can cause a rare but life-threatening condition known as lactic acidosis, so if sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, body cooling, or confusion occurs, seek medical attention immediately. Patients with poor kidney function, acute infections, or dehydration, unstable heart function, or severe liver disease should not take this medication. Also, temporary discontinuation of this medication is advised before and after tests using radiologic contrast agents, as it may burden the kidneys; it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. This medication is not recommended for pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. During treatment, monitor for symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when taken with other antidiabetic agents or insulin, as the risk increases. Increased physical activity or skipping or irregular meals can elevate the risk of hypoglycemia. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is advised, as well as checking vitamin B12 levels. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment. If surgery is needed, discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to surgery, and resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Finally, if skin rash, blisters, or severe joint pain occur while taking this medication, notify a physician immediately, and the medication may need to be discontinued if necessary. Lastly, this medication has not established safety and efficacy in children, so it is advised that it not be taken by individuals under 18 years old.
