Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This drug helps improve blood sugar control more effectively for patients with type 2 diabetes by using sitagliptin and metformin together along with dietary control and exercise. It is an important treatment that contributes to preventing complications by improving blood sugar levels.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The initial dosage is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not being treated with metformin: - The initial dosage is 1 tablet of this medication 50/500 mg taken twice daily. - For dose escalation, this medication 50/1000 mg can be taken twice daily, 1 tablet each time.
This medication consists of two components. The first component is a drug that helps regulate blood sugar, which may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients. These reactions typically occur within the first 3 months after taking the medication, and if symptoms are suspected, patients should stop taking the drug immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, this medication has been rarely reported to cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, medical personnel should be informed immediately. The second component is contraindicated in patients with reduced kidney function or certain health conditions. Particularly, patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction, acute cardiac issues or severe infections, as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. This medication can cause serious side effects, such as hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so patients with risk factors like irregular meal patterns, excessive exercise, or alcohol consumption should be particularly cautious. While taking this medication, patients should regularly monitor kidney function and undergo blood tests, as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. Furthermore, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when combined with other hypoglycemic agents or certain medications, so patients taking other medications must inform their doctor or pharmacist. If planning to undergo surgery or imaging tests using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function. When administering this medication to elderly patients, careful observation of kidney function is necessary, and since there is a likelihood of side effects, starting with the minimum dose is advisable. In case of overdose, patients should visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment, as some components may be removed by blood dialysis. Finally, if any unusual symptoms or discomfort occur during treatment, it is important to consult medical personnel to receive appropriate measures.
