How to take

This medication is usually taken twice daily with food; to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin, the dosage is increased gradually. The initial dose is based on the patient's current treatment regimen.

Precautions

This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for the treatment of diabetes. However, a serious allergic reaction may occur during treatment, so caution is warranted. If symptoms such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, or severe skin conditions occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise, inform healthcare personnel immediately. Patients with severe renal dysfunction, acute heart disease, or acute infectious states should not take this medication. It is also advisable for women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or breastfeeding not to take this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, great care should be taken during skipped meals or intense exercise. Furthermore, if used in conjunction with other antidiabetic drugs or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so it should be taken according to a doctor's instructions. Possible gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, and cold-like symptoms may occur during treatment; if any of these symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a physician. This medication can affect liver and kidney function; hence, regular blood tests and kidney function assessments are necessary. Elderly patients or those with compromised renal function should be monitored more closely. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so alcohol should be avoided. If surgical procedures are planned, it may be necessary to pause this medication temporarily; therefore, inform healthcare personnel of any surgical plans. If new symptoms or unusual reactions occur while taking this medicine, inform a physician immediately for appropriate action.
