This medication may not be suitable for certain patients. For example, patients with an allergy to the ingredients of this medication, or those with type 1 diabetes, severe renal or liver disease, should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with decreased fluid volume or poor kidney function. This medication may lower blood pressure or affect kidney function, so renal function and blood pressure status should be monitored periodically before and during treatment. The use of this medication is not recommended in patients with severe heart failure, and it should be used cautiously in patients with slightly impaired liver function. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when this medication is taken with insulin or insulin secretagogues, so attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia. Severe metabolic abnormalities called ketoacidosis may occur, so immediately consult a doctor if symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, or difficulty breathing arise. The risk of urinary tract infections or genital infections may increase, so prompt treatment is necessary if symptoms of infection occur. This medication can cause dehydration, particularly in elderly patients or those taking diuretics, so adequate fluid intake and attention to signs of dehydration should be observed. It is recommended that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding do not use this medication, and safety in children and adolescents has not been established. Elderly patients should be administered this medication carefully under medical advice due to the higher risk of renal impairment and dehydration. Patients with severely impaired renal function should not take this medication, nor should patients with severe liver dysfunction. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it to other containers.
