Efficacy in controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes and preventing cardiovascular events
This medication combines dapagliflozin and metformin to primarily help improve blood sugar control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to effectively manage blood glucose levels. It is particularly used in patients where blood sugar control is inadequate or who have cardiovascular disease or risk factors. However, additional information related to the occurrence of cardiovascular events should be consulted in professional materials. This medication enhances blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication is generally administered once daily in conjunction with the evening meal. The maximum dosage is dapagliflozin 10mg/extended-release metformin 2000mg once daily, given as 2 tablets of 5mg/1000mg. When used as initial therapy, the recommended starting dosage is one tablet of 5mg/500mg or 10mg/500mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects of metformin. Metformin
This medication is used for diabetes treatment, and one of its active ingredients, metformin hydrochloride, can rarely cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is a dangerous condition that occurs when lactic acid builds up in the body, with symptoms that may include weakness, muscle pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, and abdominal pain. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. This medication should not be used in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, dehydration, severe infections, cardiac dysfunction, or acute diseases such as acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, it should be avoided by pregnant or nursing women. Patients with decreased fluid volume or low blood pressure, the elderly, and those with impaired kidney function should regularly monitor their kidney function and blood pressure status when using this medication, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medication may increase the risk of genital infections or urinary tract infections, so if symptoms of infection occur, immediate treatment is required. Furthermore, while taking this medication, vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so it is advisable to check vitamin B12 levels during prolonged use. Before undergoing surgery or iodine contrast examinations, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects when taken with this medication, so it should be avoided.
