It may especially benefit patients with type 2 diabetes who have difficulty controlling blood sugar and have cardiovascular diseases or risk factors; in such cases, consulting specialist clinical trial information is advisable. This medication helps improve blood sugar management and is effectively used in the treatment of diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage for this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and additional combination therapy. For initial combination therapy with metformin, the dosage is either 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. It can be taken orally at any time of the day regardless of food intake, and the tablet should be swallowed whole.

Child dose

The efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in pediatric patients under the age of 18 have not been established.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients allergic to the ingredients or additives of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients with genetic issues such as lactase deficiency or galactose intolerance, as well as patients undergoing dialysis, may be at risk if they take this medication. Caution is required when administering to patients with reduced fluid volume or poor kidney function. This medication can lower blood pressure or affect kidney function; therefore, especially elderly patients or those taking diuretics should frequently monitor fluid status and kidney function. During the use of this medication, genital infections or urinary tract infections may occur; if symptoms appear, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Additionally, hypoglycemic symptoms may manifest; when taken in combination with insulin or other blood sugar-lowering agents, dosage adjustments may be necessary to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and it should not be used while breastfeeding. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms; this medication is not removed by dialysis. This medication does not significantly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, but caution should be exercised due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container.
