How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice daily with meals. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin use, dosage increases should be gradual. 1. If currently not being treated with metformin: Start with an initial dose of 2.5/500 mg, taken as 1 tablet twice daily, and can be increased to 2.5/1000 mg, taken as 1 tablet twice daily. 2. Precautions

This medication can cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be prescribed to patients with impaired kidney function or problems with heart or liver function. It should particularly be avoided in patients with acute infections, dehydration, severe trauma, shock, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. During the use of this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, and if used in conjunction with sulfonylureas or insulin, blood glucose levels should be monitored carefully, and dosages should be adjusted as needed. Regular kidney function tests should be conducted to reduce the risk of drug accumulation and side effects, especially for the elderly or patients with decreased kidney function. Rare skin conditions such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if severe abdominal pain or blisters on the skin appear, notify a doctor immediately. The metformin component may lower vitamin B12 levels, so tests to check for vitamin B12 deficiency may be necessary for long-term use. This medication should not be taken with alcohol to avoid increasing the risk of lactic acidosis. If iodinated contrast agents used in radiological tests are administered, this medication should be discontinued before and resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. It is advisable to temporarily stop this medication before surgery, and it can be resumed after normal meals and recovery of kidney function. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant are recommended to use insulin therapy instead of this medication, and it is also safest not to use it while breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy in children under 10 years old or adolescents between 10 and 17 years old have not been established, and therefore it is not recommended. There is insufficient research on the effects on driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed. In case of overdose, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur, so immediate medical treatment should be sought, and hemodialysis may be necessary. This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container away from moisture and direct sunlight and should not be transferred to another container.
