This medication is used in conjunction with diet to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including familial and non-familial types, as well as mixed dyslipidemia. It helps improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This medication serves as an effective treatment option for systematic management alongside dietary control.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dose range is from 10/2.5 mg to 10/20 mg daily. An initial dose of 10/2.5 mg or 10/5 mg daily is recommended. The dosage may be adjusted as necessary, and the maximum allowable dose can go up to 10/20 mg daily. After administration, blood lipid levels should be monitored with an interval of at least 4 weeks.

Precautions

This medication has been reported to have rare side effects affecting the muscles; therefore, patients with severe conditions such as acute infections, hypotension, major surgery, or trauma should temporarily discontinue or stop taking this medication. Individuals allergic to any of the active or inactive ingredients, those with liver disease or persistently elevated liver enzyme levels, individuals with muscle disorders, severely impaired renal function, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, hypothyroidism, family history of muscle disorders, history of muscle toxicity with other statins or fibrates, individuals with alcohol dependence, and Asian patients at higher risk for muscle problems should avoid taking high doses of this medication. This medication contains lactose, so those with lactose intolerance or related genetic diseases should not take it. Individuals with a history of alcohol dependence or liver disease, those with severe liver dysfunction should exercise caution when taking this medication, and muscle condition should be monitored periodically if there are risks for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. If symptoms such as muscle pain, cramps, weakness, fatigue, or fever occur while taking this medication, immediately inform a doctor and, if necessary, blood tests should be conducted to check for muscle damage. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment, and if liver enzyme levels become abnormally high, consultation with a doctor is necessary. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or nursing women, and fertile women should ensure appropriate contraception while taking it. Safety has not been adequately established for children and adolescents; therefore, it is not recommended. In older adults, the risk of myopathy may increase, so caution is necessary when taking this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medications currently being taken, particularly if combined with anticoagulants, fibrates, certain antibiotics, antifungals, or immunosuppressants. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive, with monitoring of liver function and muscle damage indicators. Finally, this medication must be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
