Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar more effectively in conjunction with diet and exercise. The combined action of teneligliptin and metformin aids in improving blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is used for enhancing blood sugar control in the treatment of diabetes.
This medication is typically administered once daily with the evening meal. The 20/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken as one tablet once daily. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablets are taken as two tablets at the same time once daily. The initial dose is teneligliptin 20 mg once daily along with the previous dose of metformin. The maximum recommended dosage is teneligliptin 20 mg and sustained-release metformin.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and may rarely cause a dangerous condition called lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is a complication resulting from the excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body; if symptoms occur, immediate notification to medical personnel is necessary. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment, or severe diseases such as heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis. Additionally, it should be temporarily discontinued before and after examinations using iodinated contrast media, and resumed only after normal kidney function is confirmed. It is also not recommended for use in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, patients with severe liver dysfunction, or patients in poor general condition due to severe infections or trauma. Caution should be exercised when taking this medication with insulin or sulfonylurea medications as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; blood sugar levels and symptoms should be monitored closely. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, immediate action should be taken by consuming sugar. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, those with a history of heart arrhythmias such as QT interval prolongation, or suspected symptoms of acute pancreatitis should be administered this medication carefully. Caution is required as the risk of lactic acidosis may increase in patients with liver dysfunction, pulmonary embolism, severe pulmonary dysfunction, excessive alcohol consumption, dehydration, diarrhea, or vomiting. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during treatment, particularly in elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication, and those who are breastfeeding should decide on the use of this medication after consulting with their physician. In case of overdose, appropriate treatment should be sought immediately at a medical institution, and some of this medication can be removed by hemodialysis. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it should not be used in this population. When using this medication, it should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, constipation, abdominal pain, abnormal liver function, skin rash, acute pancreatitis, etc., may occasionally occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately. Additionally, there may be interactions when used with certain drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform the physician or pharmacist. This medication aids in blood sugar control and should be taken alongside regular meals and exercise. Care should always be taken regarding the symptoms of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis during treatment.
