Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes to effectively manage their blood sugar levels in addition to diet and exercise. The combination of teneligliptin and metformin works together to improve blood sugar control. Therefore, it is used to maintain stable blood sugar levels.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. The 20/1000 mg sustained release tablet is taken once daily at a dosage of 1 tablet. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained release tablets are taken once daily at a dosage of 2 tablets simultaneously. The maximum recommended dosage per day is 20 mg of teneligliptin and 2000 mg of sustained release metformin. To maintain its sustained release properties, this medication should not be split, crushed, ground, or chewed.
This medication can very rarely cause a condition called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, so caution is required. When used with other diabetes medications, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so it is important to closely monitor changes in blood sugar levels. This medication should not be used in patients with moderate to severe renal dysfunction or heart failure. It is necessary to stop taking this medication at least 48 hours before any examinations using iodine contrast agents and to restart it only after confirming that kidney function is normal. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and it is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. This medication should not be used in patients with impaired liver function, and rare side effects such as interstitial pneumonia or acute pancreatitis may occur, so immediate medical consultation is necessary if symptoms appear. In case of hypoglycemic symptoms, immediate action such as consuming sugary foods should be taken. It is important to regularly monitor kidney function and perform blood tests to check for any abnormalities while taking this medication. In cases of severe infections, trauma, or before and after surgery, this medication should be temporarily stopped, and it can be restarted only after confirming that symptoms have improved and kidney function is normal. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is best to avoid it. Care should be taken when driving or doing work that requires focus, considering the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis.
