Precautions

This medication is an oral anti-diabetic drug that helps control blood sugar. However, it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or severe liver dysfunction. In particular, it should be temporarily discontinued before and after serious infections, trauma, or surgery, and can be resumed once kidney function returns to normal. Additionally, it is advisable for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant to avoid taking this medication. This drug can rarely cause a serious metabolic complication known as lactic acidosis, which is more likely to occur when there are conditions like reduced kidney function, cardiopulmonary disease, or sepsis. Therefore, patients should immediately inform their doctor if they experience symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taking this medication with other anti-diabetic medications or insulin, so patients should be well aware of hypoglycemia symptoms and how to manage them. Caution is also advised for individuals engaged in high-risk activities, such as operating machinery or driving, due to the possibility of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, or skin rashes; if any abnormal symptoms occur, patients should consult with their physician. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is important during treatment for any anomalies. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid drinking during treatment. The effects of this medication on nursing infants are unknown, so nursing mothers should consult with healthcare professionals regarding whether to continue breastfeeding or discontinue treatment. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children has not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients. In the case of overdose, appropriate treatment should be obtained immediately at a hospital, and if kidney function is normal, the drug can be removed from the body via hemodialysis. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
