How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. For this medication 20/1000 mg extended release tablet, it is taken once daily as 1 tablet. For this medication 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended release tablets, patients should take 2 tablets simultaneously once daily. The initial dose is intended to provide Teneligliptin at 20 mg once daily and the existing dosing of Metformin. Extended release properties should be maintained.

Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar levels. However, there are some important precautions to take when using it. First, this medication can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis can occur if lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body and can be dangerous, so if symptoms such as shortness of breath, muscle pain, abdominal pain, or weakness occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Additionally, if this medication is taken with insulin or other diabetes medications, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so if symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, cold sweats, or trembling occur, sugar should be ingested immediately. Patients with moderate or more renal impairment, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or severe infections should not take this medication. In particular, if renal function is low, the drug may accumulate in the body and become dangerous. Furthermore, if tests using radiological contrast agents are to be conducted, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the test, and after confirming normal kidney function following the test, it can be resumed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid this medication. If nursing, it should also be discussed with a physician whether to continue breastfeeding or halt drug therapy, as the medication may be transmitted through breast milk. This medication is also not administered to patients with impaired liver function. If liver function is compromised, there is an increased risk of side effects due to the accumulation of the drug in the body. Regular blood tests to monitor kidney function and vitamin B12 levels should be done during treatment. This is necessary to prevent anemia or neurological problems due to possible vitamin B12 deficiency. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during this treatment, as alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. If a major surgery is planned, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the surgery, and after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery, it can be resumed. This medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution should be exercised, especially if meals are missed or there is an increase in physical activity. Also, this medication may interact with various other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is crucial to inform a physician or pharmacist. Lastly, this medication has not been established for safety and efficacy in children and adolescents, so it should not be used in these populations. It is important to adhere to the precautions outlined above while taking this medication, and any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with medical personnel.
