This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and stable angina due to coronary artery occlusion or variant angina due to coronary artery spasms. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with confirmed coronary heart disease who have no heart failure and an ejection fraction of over 40%. It also helps to decrease risks during coronary artery revascularization. In other words, it is effective for treating cardiovascular diseases and preventing complications.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with a sufficient amount of water. As esamlodipine, it should be administered orally at a dose of 2.5 mg once daily, and it can be increased up to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. The dosage may be adjusted appropriately according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components, or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to similar drugs should not be administered this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and those who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. In addition, individuals in a state of shock or with severe heart problems, patients with severe liver dysfunction should not use this medication. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Patients with severe renal dysfunction, elderly individuals, those with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and those with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions may occur. Commonly experienced symptoms include flushing or a sensation of heat, fatigue, and swelling. Additionally, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle edema may occur, so caution is advised. Rarely, symptoms like dry mouth or excessive sweating, significantly low blood pressure, neurological symptoms, skin rash, and liver dysfunction have been reported. This medication should not be suddenly discontinued, as doing so may worsen symptoms; therefore, it should not be stopped without a doctor's instruction, and any necessary discontinuation should be done gradually by reducing the dosage. This medication can remain in the body longer in patients with liver dysfunction, so individuals with poor liver function should take it with even more caution. It should be taken with plenty of water, and as it may lower blood pressure resulting in dizziness, caution should be exercised when driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication may interact with various other drugs, so if there are other medications being taken, a doctor or pharmacist should be informed. In particular, consuming grapefruit juice may enhance the effects of this medication, so it is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice intake. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid this medication, and breastfeeding should be suspended during treatment. Use in children is only recommended for those six years of age and older, as safety and efficacy have not been established for younger ages. Elderly patients may have higher blood concentrations of this medication, hence should start at a lower dose and be closely monitored. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or cardiac abnormalities may occur, so immediate medical attention should be sought.
