Precautions

This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes and helps to control blood sugar levels. However, this medication can very rarely cause a serious metabolic complication known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or liver problems. In addition, caution is needed as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas. This medication should not be administered to individuals with moderate to severe impaired kidney function, congestive heart failure, acute infection, patients scheduled for surgery, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant. While taking this medication, be aware of symptoms of hypoglycemia, and if symptoms such as dizziness, tremors, or cold sweats occur, appropriate actions such as immediate sugar intake should be taken. This medication has been reported to cause rare side effects including interstitial pneumonia, acute pancreatitis, and bullous pemphigoid, so if symptoms such as cough, fever, abdominal pain, or skin rash occur, consult a doctor immediately. Regular testing of kidney and liver function should be performed before and during treatment, and vitamin B12 levels should also be checked periodically. Elderly individuals may experience decreased kidney function, hence dose adjustment is necessary, and regular monitoring is even more critical. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid drinking during the course of this medication. Moreover, this medication can interact with various other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to take this medication unless discussed with a healthcare provider. Safety for children and adolescents has not been established, so use is not recommended. In the case of an overdose, seek medical attention immediately, and blood dialysis may be necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container for safety reasons.
