How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal, and the dosage is adjusted gradually to minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The 20/1000 mg extended-release tablets are taken as one tablet once daily. Patients taking the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablets should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps in controlling blood sugar. However, it can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which can become dangerous if excessive lactic acid accumulates in the body, so caution is needed. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, heart disease, liver dysfunction, severe infections, trauma, or those preparing for surgery should not use this medication. Additionally, it is safer for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant to not take this medication. When taken with other diabetes medications, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so it is important to be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to manage them. Regular testing of kidney function should be conducted during treatment, and if symptoms such as dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid it. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so regular blood testing is recommended. If sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, shortness of breath, or weakness occurs while taking this medication, notify a physician immediately, as these symptoms may indicate acute pancreatitis or lactic acidosis. Elderly patients with declining kidney function may require careful dosage adjustment and monitoring of kidney function. During treatment, interactions with other medications may occur, so if taking any other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Lastly, this medication is not used in children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
