This medication is used as an adjunct therapy with narcotic analgesics for the control of moderate to severe pain, and it also has antipyretic effects. Therefore, it can help reduce fever along with pain relief.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For adjunct therapy with narcotic analgesics for moderate and severe pain control, administer intravenously at a dose of 400 mg to 800 mg as needed every 6 hours. A maximum of 3200 mg can be administered daily, with an administration time of at least 30 minutes. For antipyretic use, administer intravenously at a dose of 400 mg as needed every 4-6 hours. Depending on the patient's condition, after the initial 400 mg, every 4-hour intervals may be required.

Precautions

This medication should be used cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors, as there may be an increased risk of serious cardiovascular issues such as thrombosis, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Particularly, high doses should be avoided in patients with hypertension, heart failure, or ischemic heart disease, and any unusual symptoms should be closely monitored during treatment. This medication may cause serious gastrointestinal problems such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations, so elderly individuals or patients on long-term treatment should take extra caution. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease should not use this medication, and gastrointestinal symptoms should be closely monitored during treatment. It is also advised that patients with severe liver, kidney, heart dysfunction, or blood disorders avoid this medication. Patients with a history of asthma or hypersensitivity reactions to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use this medication. It must not be used during late pregnancy due to potential risks to the fetus, and caution is advised during mid-pregnancy. During treatment, the recommended dosage should not be exceeded, and it is best not to use it together with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Patients with hypertension should frequently check their blood pressure at the beginning of treatment and throughout the dosage period as this medication may increase blood pressure. Patients with impaired kidney function or dehydration may experience worsening kidney damage when taking this medication, so caution is warranted. If there are signs of liver dysfunction or liver disease, the use of this medication should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Long-term use may lead to anemia or blood disorders, thus regular blood tests are necessary. This medication may cause severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis; if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, hives, or severe rash occur, immediate emergency treatment is required. If there are serious rashes or blisters on the skin, discontinue use immediately and inform medical personnel. This medication can mask infection symptoms; thus, it must be observed carefully when an infection is suspected. There may be interactions with aspirin, anticoagulants, and some antihypertensive medications, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is essential. Pregnant or nursing women should consult with their healthcare provider before taking this medication, and it is advisable to avoid use during breastfeeding. It should not be used in infants under 6 months of age as safety has not been established. Elderly individuals may have decreased physical function, thus dosage adjustments and careful observation for adverse reactions are required. In case of overdose, symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, renal failure, difficulty breathing, and hypotension may appear; stop taking the medication immediately and visit a medical institution.
