Relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis)
This medication is used to relieve pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis, or degenerative arthritis. It selectively inhibits the COX-2 enzyme to help alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. It is important to carefully assess the patient's overall health status and risk factors before administration. This allows for safe symptom improvement and enhancement of the patient's quality of life.
Before administering this medicine, consider the potential risks and benefits of this medicine and other alternative treatments. Cardiovascular risk increases with higher doses and longer exposure to this medicine; therefore, administer it for the shortest possible duration. Efficacy beyond 6 weeks and the safety of long-term administration beyond 6 months have not been established. Adverse reactions such as hypertension, angina, and edema may occur during treatment with this medicine. Therefore, during treatment, the need to continue therapy based on symptom relief and the response to treatment should be reassessed regularly at least once a month. Adults: The recommended dose is 2mg once daily, taken after a meal. Do not exceed a daily dose of 2mg. If there is no therapeutic benefit at the recommended dose, discontinue this medicine and consider an appropriate alternative treatment. Patients with hepatic or renal impairment: Do not administer this medicine because there is no experience with its use.
This medication can cause gastrointestinal bleeding in those who regularly consume three or more alcoholic beverages daily, so it is imperative to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including this medication, can affect the heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of cardiovascular issues such as myocardial infarction or stroke; thus, it should be used at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest duration. It can cause serious issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations, so special caution is required for the elderly or those with a history of gastrointestinal diseases. This medication should not be administered to individuals with certain allergic reactions, those with heart, kidney, or liver dysfunction, and women who are pregnant or nursing. Patients with a history of asthma, hypertension, or heart failure should use this medication cautiously, as should those on diuretics or ACE inhibitors. While taking this medication, side effects such as headaches, dyspepsia, increased blood pressure, edema, and skin rashes may occur. If any abnormal symptoms arise, it is crucial to consult medical personnel immediately. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so caution is necessary when used with other drugs that affect liver function or inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid taking this medication, and nursing mothers should also discontinue either the medication or breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children under 18 years of age have not been established, so it is preferable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients may have impaired kidney, liver, or heart function, so closer observation is necessary during administration. Regular blood tests and assessments of liver and kidney function should be performed to check for abnormalities, and the medication should be discontinued immediately if any issues arise. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, drowsiness, nausea, and upper abdominal pain may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container is not advisable to maintain quality.
