Relief of symptoms of osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis)
This medication is used to relieve the symptoms and signs of osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease. It particularly helps improve patients' daily lives by selectively inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme to reduce inflammation and pain. However, it is important to assess the patient's overall health status and risk factors before taking this medication, so consulting with a pharmacist or doctor before use is essential. This will enable safer and more effective management of osteoarthritis symptoms.
Before administering this medicine, consider the potential risks and benefits of this medicine and other alternative treatments. Cardiovascular risk increases with higher doses and longer exposure to this medicine; therefore, administer it for the shortest possible duration. Efficacy beyond 6 weeks and the safety of long-term administration beyond 6 months have not been established. Adverse reactions such as hypertension, angina, and edema may occur during treatment with this medicine. Therefore, during treatment, the need to continue therapy based on symptom relief and the response to treatment should be reassessed regularly at least once a month. Adults: The recommended dose is 2mg once daily, taken after a meal. Do not exceed a daily dose of 2mg. If there is no therapeutic benefit at the recommended dose, discontinue this medicine and consider an appropriate alternative treatment. Patients with hepatic or renal impairment: Do not administer this medicine because there is no experience with its use.
Patients who regularly consume more than three alcoholic drinks per day should consult with a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. Otherwise, the risk of gastric bleeding may increase. This medication can affect the cardiovascular system, potentially increasing the risk of serious cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction or stroke. Particularly, in patients with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors, it should only be taken at the minimum effective dose and for a short duration. Additionally, if any cardiovascular symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Serious issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations may occur, so caution is warranted for patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders or the elderly. If symptoms such as epigastric pain, indigestion, black stools, or hematemesis occur, medical attention should be sought promptly. Patients with specific allergies, or patients with liver, kidney, or heart function issues, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and individuals with certain conditions should not take this medication. Furthermore, patients with asthma, hypertension, edema, or diabetes should consult a doctor before taking this medication. While taking this medication, adverse reactions such as headaches, indigestion, elevated blood pressure, edema, skin rashes, and shortness of breath may occur; it is important to inform healthcare providers immediately if these symptoms arise. This medication may affect liver and kidney function, so patients taking it for an extended period should have regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests. If symptoms of liver dysfunction arise, use should be discontinued. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Caution is required when taken with medications metabolized by the liver, blood pressure medications, anticoagulants, diuretics, or anticancer drugs. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid this medication, and breastfeeding women should consult a specialist before use. The safety for children and adolescents under 18 years has not been established, so it is not advisable to use this medication in that population. Elderly patients may have decreased liver, kidney, and heart function, thus special precautions and monitoring are necessary when taking this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms may include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and upper abdominal pain, which may require emergency treatment.
