Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It contains both teneligliptin and metformin, making it effective as a therapeutic agent that complements dietary and exercise therapy. It helps lower blood sugar levels to prevent complications and supports the health management of patients. Therefore, consistent use can aid in blood sugar management.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. The 20/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken as 1 tablet once daily. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablets are taken as 2 tablets at the same time once daily. The initial dose is to provide teneligliptin 20 mg once daily and the current metformin dosage. The maximum recommended dose per day is teneligliptin 20 mg and sustained-release metformin 2000 mg.
This medication helps control blood sugar. However, it should not be used by patients with poor kidney function or those with heart disease. Additionally, it should be temporarily discontinued in cases of acute infection, severe trauma, or before and after surgery. This medication can rarely cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, weakness, or abdominal pain occur, consult a doctor immediately. Furthermore, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so caution is advised if meals are skipped or excessive exercise is undertaken. Patients with impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively should also avoid this medication. It is advised that women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, do not use this medication. Elderly patients may experience reduced kidney function, so regular checks and dosage adjustments are necessary. While taking this medication, if used with other diabetes medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so it is important to be well-informed about hypoglycemic symptoms and responses. Additionally, this medication should be discontinued before tests that use certain contrast agents and resumed only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal following the tests. It is important to regularly check kidney function and vitamin B12 levels through blood tests while taking this medication. Side effects such as constipation, abdominal pain, dizziness, and rash may occur; consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. Lastly, the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been confirmed in children, so it is not used in pediatric patients.
