Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, sitagliptin may rarely cause serious allergic reactions. If symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, stop taking this medication immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, acute pancreatitis may occur during sitagliptin administration. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite appear, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Metformin hydrochloride can cause a rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, which may present as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderately impaired kidney function or those with acute infections, dehydration, severe heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Also, prior to and after examinations involving iodine-based contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued for a period to avoid worsening kidney function, and it should be restarted only after confirming normal kidney function. It is safest not to use this medication in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers. While taking this medication, maintain regular meals and appropriate exercise, and undergo routine checks of blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests. Symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, cold sweat, or severe fatigue may occur, especially when taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, so caution regarding the risk of hypoglycemia is advised. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and temporarily discontinue use if oral intake is difficult due to surgery or severe infections. Finally, if any abnormal skin reactions such as blisters or severe joint pain occur while taking this medication, inform healthcare professionals immediately.
