Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and contains two components: sitagliptin and metformin. First, an allergic reaction may occur when taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or difficulty breathing develop, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Second, acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea appear, inform medical staff immediately. Third, due to the metformin component, rare but serious lactic acidosis may occur; if symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain arise, seek medical attention immediately. Fourth, this medication should not be taken by patients with decreased kidney function, severe infection, dehydration, congestive heart failure, or acute diseases such as myocardial infarction. Fifth, the use of iodine contrast agents for examinations around the time of this medication should be temporarily suspended, and the medication may be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. Sixth, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Seventh, caution is advised due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis resulting from irregular meals, intense exercise, or interactions with other medications. Eighth, it is important to regularly monitor kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels while taking this medication. Ninth, alcohol may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol while on this medication. Finally, the safety of this medication in children has not been established, and elderly patients require dose adjustments and caution based on kidney function.
