Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in blood sugar management for patients with type 2 diabetes along with diet and exercise regimens. The combination of sitagliptin and metformin effectively lowers blood sugar levels, thereby helping to improve blood sugar management in patients.
The dosage of this medication in anti-diabetic therapy should not exceed the maximum recommended daily doses of sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg, determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance. It should be taken once daily in the evening with meals, gradually increasing the dose. Extended release tablets should be swallowed whole and not divided, crushed, ground, or chewed. The 100/1000 mg extended release tablet is taken once a day, 1 tablet.
This medication contains the active ingredients sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, the sitagliptin component may cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs, notify medical personnel immediately. Although rare, the metformin component can cause serious metabolic abnormalities known as lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain appear, discontinue the medication immediately and seek hospitalization. This drug should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute diseases such as acute heart failure or severe infections, patients with liver dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to the procedure and may resume after confirming normal renal function post-surgery. Patients with irregular eating habits or poor nutritional status, those who engage in vigorous exercise, or those taking other medications are at higher risk for hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis and should use caution. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and vitamin B12 levels should be performed to check for abnormalities. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so patients should avoid drinking while taking it. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, consume sugar immediately and seek medical advice if symptoms are severe. If skin blisters or severe joint pain occur while taking this medication, consult a physician immediately. Lastly, when administering this medication to the elderly, renal function should be closely monitored and dosage adjustments may be necessary.
