Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which are used in the treatment of diabetes. Firstly, severe allergic reactions may occur when taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur, use should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort is experienced, medical attention should be sought immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with severely compromised renal function, acute heart disease, or severe infection, and if these conditions are suspected, consultation with a healthcare provider is essential. Use of iodinated contrast agents requires temporary discontinuation of this medication before and after the examination. Resumption of use should occur only after renal function is confirmed to be normal. It is advisable for women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding to avoid taking this medication for safety. When taking this medication, be vigilant for symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when taken in conjunction with insulin or other blood sugar-lowering agents, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, and consulting a doctor if symptoms arise is recommended. Additionally, there is a rare but serious risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, if symptoms such as fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or weakness occur, seek medical attention immediately and discontinue use. This medication may affect liver and kidney function, so regular blood tests and kidney function evaluations are necessary, particularly in elderly patients or those with compromised renal function. Alcohol may increase the risks associated with this medication, so avoidance of alcohol during therapy is advisable. If undergoing surgery, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the procedure and resumed only after kidney function returns to normal postoperatively. Ultimately, it is important to maintain a consistent diet and exercise regimen while taking this medication, and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and health status is crucial.
