Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by using sitagliptin and metformin together. For this medication 100/1000 mg sustained-release tablet, take 1 tablet once daily. Patients taking the 50/500 mg sustained-release tablet or the 50/1000 mg sustained-release tablet take 2 tablets at once once daily. For patients who are not currently being treated with metformin, the initial dosage is a total daily dose of 100 mg of sitagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin. If sufficient blood sugar control is not achieved with the initial dosage, the dosage may be gradually increased up to the maximum recommended daily dose for metformin (2000 mg).
This medication helps control blood sugar levels, but there are several precautions to observe while taking it. First, there is a possibility of allergic reactions to this drug, so if symptoms such as skin rashes or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, serious inflammation known as pancreatitis may occur; therefore, if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe nausea occurs, it is important to visit the hospital immediately. It is safer not to use this medication in patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or heart problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are also advised not to use this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so caution is required when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise. In particular, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other hypoglycemic agents. Those with liver dysfunction or high alcohol intake should use this medication cautiously, and regular monitoring of liver and kidney function is important. In the case of surgery, this medication should be stopped 48 hours before the procedure and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Moreover, it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and regular monitoring is necessary as vitamin B12 levels may drop. Finally, the safety of this medication has not been established for children, and elderly patients should take it with dosage adjustments based on kidney function and monitor closely. Being aware of these points and consulting with a doctor or pharmacist while taking this medication is important for safety.
