To maintain the extended-release properties, it should be swallowed whole and not split, crushed, or chewed. - The extended-release tablet of this medication 100/1000 mg is taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time. - Patients taking this medication 50/500 mg extended-release tablet or 50/1000 mg extended-release tablet should take 2 tablets once daily.

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which help regulate blood sugar levels. However, severe allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, acute pancreatitis may occur, so if severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs, notify medical personnel immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with severely decreased kidney function, acute infections, dehydration, severe heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, and it must be stopped before and after examinations using radiological iodine contrast agents. It is safest for women who are pregnant or of childbearing potential, as well as nursing mothers, to avoid taking this medication. During treatment, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, so caution is necessary if meals are skipped or activity levels increase suddenly, and the risk of hypoglycemia may be higher when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents. Care should also be taken when administering this medication to individuals with impaired liver function, and regular liver and kidney function tests should be conducted. Elderly patients are particularly likely to have decreased kidney function; therefore, dosage adjustments and regular monitoring are necessary. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol. If undergoing surgery, this medication should be temporarily discontinued 48 hours before the procedure, and it should be resumed only after the patient’s condition has stabilized and kidney function has been confirmed to be normal. Furthermore, vitamin B12 levels may decrease while taking this medication, so regular blood tests should confirm this, and supplementation should be considered if necessary. Gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, headaches, upper respiratory infections, and other side effects may occur during treatment, and if severe joint pain or skin blisters arise, consult a physician immediately. Lastly, interactions may occur when taking this medication with other drugs, so all currently used medications should be reported to healthcare providers and closely monitored.
