This medication is taken once daily, either as 1 tablet (100/1000 mg extended release) or as 2 tablets (50/500 mg or 50/1000 mg extended release) once daily. The initial dosage is 100 mg of sitagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin as needed.

Precautions

This medication is a diabetes treatment containing sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, an allergic reaction may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing arise, you should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, serious side effects such as acute pancreatitis, characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, may develop, so it is important to carefully monitor for symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The metformin contained in this medication can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a dangerous metabolic complication that may present with symptoms such as severe fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. If such symptoms occur, notify medical personnel immediately. Patients with poor kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, liver dysfunction, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and it should also be temporarily discontinued around the time of surgery. When taken with other medications that have strong blood sugar-lowering effects, hypoglycemia may occur, so it is important to frequently check blood sugar levels and respond immediately if symptoms of hypoglycemia, such as dizziness, cold sweat, or tremors, are experienced. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be performed during the course of this medication, and since vitamin B12 levels may decrease, supplementation may be necessary if needed. Furthermore, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so avoiding drinking is advisable. Finally, this medication has not been established as safe and effective for children under 18 years of age, so it is best to avoid administering it to this age group. It is important to adhere to the aforementioned precautions while taking this medication and to seek immediate medical advice if any unusual symptoms appear.
