Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly effective for those who are also engaging in dietary control and exercise therapy, as the two active ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, work together to stabilize blood sugar. This helps improve blood sugar levels and aids in diabetes management.
The extended-release tablet of this medication, 100/1000 mg, should be taken once daily as one tablet. Patients taking the 50/500 mg extended-release tablet or 50/1000 mg extended-release tablet should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. 1. Patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose is a total daily dose of 100 mg of sitagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin. If this initial dose does not provide adequate glucose control, adjustments should be made as appropriate.
This medication contains two active ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, which are each used for treating diabetes. First, sitagliptin can rarely cause severe allergic reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately. Acute pancreatitis may also occur, so if experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe dyspeptic symptoms, consult a doctor right away. Metformin can cause a rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, which is characterized by excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body, with symptoms including fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. If these symptoms arise, discontinue the medication and inform healthcare professionals immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as patients with severely impaired liver function, should not take this medication. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is necessary, particularly for elderly patients or those with slightly reduced kidney function. During treatment, it is important to maintain a regular diet and appropriate exercise; irregular or inadequate food intake may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. If used in conjunction with other antihyperglycemic agents or insulin, increased vigilance is needed for hypoglycemic symptoms, and it is crucial to consume sugars immediately if symptoms occur. When undergoing surgery or tests that use contrast agents, temporarily discontinue this medication, and resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid drinking while on this medication. Lastly, safety and efficacy have not been established for children; therefore, patients under 18 years should not take this medication. If any unusual symptoms occur while taking this medication, it is important to consult healthcare professionals immediately to receive appropriate care.
