Precautions

This medication is a diabetes treatment containing both sitagliptin and metformin. First, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication; if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, notify healthcare professionals immediately. The metformin component in this medication can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but very dangerous metabolic condition, so it should not be taken when severe dehydration, heart disease, liver disease, severe infection, or acute kidney function decline is present. Particularly, if renal function is moderately or severely impaired, or if there are plans to undergo tests using iodine contrast agents, discontinuation should occur, and it should only be resumed after renal function has been confirmed to be normal. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not take this medication. There is a risk of hypoglycemia with this medication, so patients should be cautious about missing meals, having irregular eating habits, excessive exercise, or taking it in combination with other hypoglycemic agents. Also, patients with impaired liver or kidney function, elderly patients, and those with poor nutritional status need to be more cautious while taking this medication and should undergo regular blood tests and kidney function tests. Patients scheduled for surgery or with severe infections or trauma should temporarily discontinue this medication, resuming after their condition stabilizes. Finally, it is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and if any abnormal symptoms or discomfort are experienced during use, consult a doctor immediately.
