How to take

Adult dose

For pyridoxine hydrochloride, adults should take 10 to 100 mg per day. In cases of vitamin B6 dependency, high doses may be administered.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with an allergic reaction to this medication or its ingredients. Additionally, it should not be used in patients currently taking the medication levodopa. When using this medication, caution should be exercised for patients receiving treatment from a physician or those taking specific medications such as isoniazid, penicillamine, or estrogen preparations like oral contraceptives. This medication may cause increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, and symptoms such as nausea, headache, and drowsiness may occur. Long-term use of high doses may lead to nerve abnormalities resulting in seizures, paralysis of the hands and feet, or balance disorders, and recovery from these symptoms may take up to 6 months even after stopping the medication. Particularly, administering large doses to newborns or young children may cause serious side effects such as muscle damage and kidney dysfunction; thus, these patients should be closely monitored and the medication should be discontinued immediately if any unusual signs occur. The medication should be taken strictly according to the prescribed dosage and regimen, and if symptoms do not improve or worsen after about a month of use, it is essential to consult a physician or pharmacist. High-dose administration during pregnancy may be associated with vitamin B6 dependency syndrome in newborns or young children, requiring caution. When administering high doses of this medication, particularly to newborns and infants, caution should be taken to gradually adjust the dosage to find the appropriate amount, and it should not be stopped suddenly but must be reduced gradually to prevent temporary dependency issues. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa if taken together, so they should not be taken simultaneously. Moreover, isoniazid, penicillamine, and estrogen preparations may increase the requirements for vitamin B6. Using this medication with altretamine and cisplatin, which are used for ovarian cancer patients, may reduce neurotoxicity, but the duration of treatment may be shortened, so it is recommended to avoid co-administration. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Additionally, it should be stored in its original container and sealed; transferring it to another container may cause accidents or deterioration in quality.
