Improvement of blood glucose control
This medication is used in adult patients with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar is not sufficiently controlled. It can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications along with dietary control and physical exercise. This helps to more effectively assist in blood glucose control. Therefore, this medication plays a crucial role in improving blood glucose control.
The starting dose of this medication is 3mg once daily for one month. After one month, it is increased to the maintenance (recommended) dose of 7mg once daily. After being administered 7mg once daily for at least one month, if additional blood glucose control is needed, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 14mg once daily. The maximum single daily dose of this medication is 14mg. Administration: This medication is taken orally once daily.
This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis may occur in insulin-dependent patients who discontinue insulin rapidly or reduce their dosage. Patients allergic to the active ingredient or additives of this medication should not take it. It is not recommended for patients with very severe heart failure, and caution is needed as dehydration and renal function impairment may occur due to gastrointestinal side effects. Patients should ensure adequate fluid intake and take preventive measures to avoid fluid loss. Acute pancreatitis can occur, and if symptoms of pancreatitis arise, the medication should be immediately discontinued and medical consultation should be sought. Patients with a history of pancreatitis should also be cautious. When taking sulfonylureas or insulin together, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so it may be necessary to adjust the dosages of these medications at the start of treatment. Patients with diabetic retinopathy may experience worsening of their condition when taking this medication, thus regular ophthalmic examinations and caution are required. Temporary worsening of retinopathy may occur when blood glucose control improves rapidly. If the effects of this medication are lower than expected, absorption may be poor or there may be individual variations, so it should be discussed with healthcare professionals. There is no experience using this medication in patients who have undergone obesity surgery, so caution should be exercised. Patients undergoing general anesthesia or deep sedation should inform healthcare professionals about the use of this medication, as delayed gastric emptying may increase the risk of aspiration. The most common side effects of this medication include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal disturbances, and some patients may require treatment discontinuation. Patients should be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when taking sulfonylureas or insulin together. This medication may affect the absorption of other drugs, so it is important to maintain the timing interval for administration. For example, it is necessary to wait at least 30 minutes after taking this medication before taking other oral medications. Use should be avoided during pregnancy, and if planning to become pregnant, it should be discontinued at least 2 months prior. Use during lactation is also not recommended. While dosage adjustments are not necessary based on age or renal and liver function, there is insufficient experience in patients with end-stage renal disease or severe liver impairment, hence caution is advised. Dizziness may occur in the initial stages of medication usage, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery, especially in cases of hypoglycemia risk. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances may occur, and appropriate treatment is required depending on the symptoms. This medication has a long half-life, so long-term observation is necessary. This medication should be stored in its original packaging away from moisture and light.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a container that protects it from light. Additionally, it should be stored at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C to maintain its efficacy.
