Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This drug helps improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes when used in combination with linagliptin and metformin. It is particularly effective when combined with dietary and exercise therapies, serving as an adjunct to stabilize blood sugar levels. This contributes to smoother blood sugar management and helps prevent diabetes-related complications.
This medication is administered twice daily with meals. If not currently treated with metformin, the initial dosage is Trachydia Duo 2.5/500 mg taken twice daily, with the possibility of increasing to 2.5/1000 mg taken twice daily. If blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy using metformin, linagliptin 2.5 mg should be administered twice daily along with the existing metformin dosage.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and contains two main ingredients. During the course of taking this drug, a rare side effect known as lactic acidosis may occur, which can be dangerous if lactic acid builds up in the body, so caution is required. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with severe infections or heart failure should not take this medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia; therefore, those taking insulin or other glucose-lowering medications should check their blood sugar levels frequently and adjust the dosage if necessary. As kidney function might decline, it is important to regularly monitor kidney function through blood tests. Additionally, serious side effects such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur while taking this medication, so immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities arise. Gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting may occur, but these usually improve with time. This medication should be avoided alongside alcohol due to an increased risk of lactic acidosis, and any concurrent medications should be disclosed to a doctor or pharmacist due to potential interactions. It is advisable not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it is not recommended for children under 10 years old. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, so thorough evaluation of kidney function should be performed before administration, with regular monitoring. If undergoing surgery or radiologic examinations while taking this medication, it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue it for the procedures, so please consult with healthcare professionals. In cases of overdose, lactic acidosis may occur, necessitating immediate medical treatment, and blood dialysis may be required. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from moisture.
