Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps lower blood sugar. However, there is a need for caution as very rarely serious side effects such as lactic acidosis can occur. Particularly, it is safer for patients with impaired kidney function, heart disease, or liver dysfunction not to use this medication. The use of this medication should be paused for a certain period before and after examinations using contrast agents, and it should only be resumed after confirming that kidney function is normal post-examination. Pregnant women or women capable of becoming pregnant, patients with severe infections or major trauma should also avoid this medication. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, immediate action such as consuming foods containing sugar is necessary. This medication can affect liver and kidney function, so regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be conducted, with extra caution for the elderly. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so drinking should be avoided during treatment. In addition, this medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to monitor blood levels regularly. In cases of surgery or significant illness that restrict food intake, this medication should also be temporarily discontinued. If during the course of this medication, sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, breathing difficulties, or weakness occurs, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Furthermore, if there are blisters or rashes on the skin, medication should be stopped immediately, and a specialist should be consulted.
