Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly suitable for patients taking both teneligliptin and metformin, assisting in dietary and exercise management. This helps achieve better blood sugar control. In other words, this medication aids in improving blood sugar management.
This medication is generally taken once daily with the evening meal; the 20/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken as one tablet once daily. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablets are taken as two tablets simultaneously once daily. The initial dosage is 20 mg of teneligliptin once daily along with the existing dosage of metformin. The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of teneligliptin and 2000 mg of sustained-release metformin.
This medication helps control blood sugar; however, there are several important cautionary points to consider when using it. First, this medication should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function. It can be dangerous for those with moderate or severe renal impairment to take this medication. Second, it should not be used by patients with heart disease, severe infections, or liver dysfunction, as this could be harmful. Third, this medication should be discontinued before any imaging tests utilizing iodine contrast agents and should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. Fourth, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding mothers should decide whether to take it in consultation with their doctor. Fifth, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase if this medication is taken together with other diabetes drugs, so patients should be well-informed about hypoglycemic symptoms and respond immediately if symptoms occur. Sixth, alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication as it may enhance the risk of side effects. Seventh, this medication can rarely cause a dangerous condition known as lactic acidosis; therefore, if symptoms such as sudden muscle pain, breathing difficulties, weakness, or abdominal pain occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. Eighth, elderly patients are likely to have impaired kidney function, so regular kidney function tests are necessary, and dosage adjustments may be needed. Ninth, during treatment with this medication, it is important to regularly check kidney function and vitamin B12 levels through blood tests. Finally, if any unusual symptoms appear during the course of treatment with this medication, consultation with a doctor should be obtained immediately, especially if there are skin blisters or severe abdominal pain, and immediate treatment should be sought.
