Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and has the effect of lowering blood sugar levels. However, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may rarely occur, so caution is advised. It should not be administered to patients with severely reduced kidney function, heart failure, or liver dysfunction. Patients who are scheduled to undergo testing with iodine-based contrast agents should discontinue use of this medication 48 hours prior to the test and should resume taking it only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal post-test. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised to avoid using this medication. During the use of this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so patients, especially those taking insulin or other diabetes medications, should be aware of low blood sugar. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis occur, consult a doctor immediately, and if symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting persist, discontinue use. Additionally, this medication should be used with caution in patients with allergies to certain coloring ingredients. Elderly patients often have decreased kidney function, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and appropriate dosage adjustments must be made. In cases of overdose, seek medical attention immediately, as blood dialysis may be necessary. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while on this medication, and in situations of dehydration, severe infection, or surgery, temporarily stopping the medication may be necessary. Regular blood tests are recommended, as vitamin B12 levels may decrease during the use of this medication. Patients who drive or perform high-risk jobs should be particularly cautious about symptoms of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. As this medication may interact with other medications, patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist of any other medications they are taking.
