Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is administered to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes using a combination of teneligliptin and metformin, as an aid to diet and exercise therapy. It helps effectively manage blood sugar levels and alleviates symptoms of diabetes.
This medication is typically given once daily with the evening meal and the dosage is adjusted gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The 20/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken once daily, 1 tablet per dose. Patients taking the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablet typically take 2 tablets simultaneously once daily. The initial dose should be teneligliptin 20 mg once daily along with the existing metformin.
This medication is a diabetes treatment that aids in blood sugar control and should not be used by patients with impaired kidney function. It is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease, heart failure, or liver dysfunction. It should be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery or during severe infections or traumatic conditions and can be resumed only after kidney function has stabilized. It is safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or in women who may become pregnant. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with other diabetes medications, so patients should be well-informed about hypoglycemia symptoms and management. There is a rare risk of lactic acidosis, which occurs when there is an excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body leading to a dangerous condition, symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. Patients experiencing these symptoms should contact their doctor immediately, especially those with impaired kidney or liver function as the risk of lactic acidosis is higher. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advised to avoid drinking while taking this medication. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, and regular blood testing is recommended. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function necessitating dose adjustments and regular monitoring of kidney function. Some patients may experience side effects such as dyspepsia, diarrhea, constipation, headache, dizziness, fatigue, itching, rash, allergic dermatitis, arthralgia, malaise, allergic rhinitis, elevated serum uric acid, peripheral edema, stomatitis, gastric polyps, colonic polyps, duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, decreased appetite, increased amylase, elevated lipase, and increased AST (GOT), ALT (GPT), GGT, ALP, or proteinuria. Serious adverse reactions such as acute pancreatitis or interstitial pneumonia have been reported rarely, and any persistent abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or fever should prompt immediate medical consultation. If sudden skin rash or blisters occur during this treatment, patients should consult their physician promptly. Additionally, as this medication may cause allergic reactions to certain coloring agents, care should be taken in patients with a history of allergies. This medication can interact with other drugs; therefore, it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicines being taken. Particularly when used in combination with medications that may affect kidney function, close monitoring of kidney function is necessary. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues along with cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), extreme tiredness, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headaches, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It is recommended to maintain storage temperatures between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the drug's effectiveness and prevent degradation.
