Precautions

This medication helps to lower blood sugar. However, it can very rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis, which requires caution. Lactic acidosis is a condition where lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body and can be dangerous; if symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe cardiac dysfunction, or poor liver function should not take this medication. Additionally, it is necessary to stop taking the medication for a certain period before and after tests using radiographic contrast agents. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when this medication is taken in combination with other diabetes medications, so it is essential to monitor blood glucose levels regularly and be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, it is important to consume foods containing sugar. During treatment, liver and kidney function should be monitored regularly, and if any abnormalities arise, a consultation with a doctor is required. Furthermore, this medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to check vitamin B12 status through blood tests. It is recommended that pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers avoid taking this medication. Caution is necessary for children and elderly patients, as safety and efficacy have not been adequately established. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, as this medication can be removed through blood dialysis. During the use of this medication, alcohol consumption should be avoided, and in cases of severe dehydration, infection, or before and after surgery, temporary discontinuation of the medication may be necessary. Additionally, there may be interactions with certain medications, so it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
