This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dose is determined based on the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. Patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg of this medication taken twice daily, at a single dose of 1 tablet, increasing to 50/1000 mg taken twice daily at a single dose of 1 tablet.

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this drug; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, this medication may cause pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, medical personnel should be notified immediately. The metformin component can rarely lead to a serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis, so if sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, and a hospital visit should occur. This medication should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections or dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or acute heart failure, and it should be temporarily discontinued for a specified period before and after examinations using iodinated contrast agents. It is not safe to use this medication in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, lactating women, or children under 18. During use, regular checks of blood glucose control and kidney function are necessary, and monitoring for vitamin B12 deficiency is also required. Moreover, excessive alcohol consumption, vigorous exercise, and irregular meals during treatment can increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis; hence caution is advised. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with other antidiabetic medications, particularly insulin or sulfonylureas, so dosage adjustments should be made according to a doctor's instructions. In case of impending surgery, use of this medication should be temporarily halted 48 hours before the surgery, and it can be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Finally, gastrointestinal discomforts such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur while taking this drug, but if these symptoms persist or become severe, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
