How to take

Adult dose

This medication is usually administered once daily with the evening meal. Take one tablet of 20/1000 mg extended-release once daily. Patients taking 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. Precautions

This medication is used to treat diabetes, and there are several important considerations to be aware of when using it. First, this medication can, in rare cases, cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is a dangerous condition that occurs when lactic acid accumulates in the body, and special caution should be taken for patients with renal impairment or heart disease, as well as those with acute infections or severe trauma. Additionally, if taken with insulin or other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so patients should be well-informed about the symptoms of hypoglycemia and take immediate action, such as consuming sugar, if symptoms appear. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis should not take this medication. Furthermore, if a patient is scheduled to receive iodine contrast for radiographic examinations, they should discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to the procedure and resume it only after confirming normal kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, patients with severe liver impairment, severe pulmonary dysfunction, or severe malnutrition or debility should also avoid this medication. This medication may cause side effects such as abdominal pain, constipation, dizziness, skin rash, liver function abnormalities, or acute pancreatitis in some patients. They should consult their doctor immediately if such symptoms occur. In particular, this medication contains the dye Yellow No. 5, so individuals allergic to this ingredient should take caution. During treatment, it is advisable to regularly monitor kidney function and blood levels to check for vitamin B12 levels. A deficiency in vitamin B12 may require supplementation. Additionally, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so patients should avoid excessive drinking during treatment. Elderly individuals are more likely to have decreased kidney function, so kidney function should be frequently monitored and dosage adjusted as needed. Patients experiencing blisters or skin abnormalities during treatment should inform their doctor immediately; suspension and consultation are also necessary if severe joint pain occurs. Finally, the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, so it is not recommended for use in this population. By following these precautions, this medication can help in controlling blood sugar.
