Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps regulate blood sugar levels. However, it should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function, heart disease, or liver dysfunction. In particular, patients with acute renal failure, severe infections, or those undergoing surgery should temporarily discontinue this medication. Symptoms of lactic acidosis can include vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle pain, and difficulty in breathing; if such symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Additionally, this medication can cause hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be carefully monitored in patients taking insulin or other antidiabetic medications. Regular kidney and liver function tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and it is also advisable to check vitamin B12 levels. Alcohol consumption or excessive intake of alcohol can increase the risk of side effects related to this medication and should be avoided. If sudden severe abdominal pain, blisters on the skin, or rashes appear during treatment with this medication, contacting a physician immediately is recommended. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so dosage adjustments and regular monitoring are necessary. This medication has not been established for safety and efficacy in children and should not be used in that population.
